Cardiovascular Resuscitation And Automated External Defibrillator Use

The Governing Board believes that lives may be saved in emergency situations if persons are available at each school site who have been trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other heart stoppage first aid techniques including the use of an automated or automatic external defibrillator (AED.)

The Board finds that the California State Legislature has provided that:

Any person who, in good faith and not for compensation

The Board further finds that the California State Legislature has provided that:

A person or entity who provides CPR and AED training to a person who renders emergency care pursuant to subdivision (b) shall not be liable for any civil damages resulting from any acts or omissions of the person rendering the emergency care." (Education Code 1714.21 (c)).

The Board therefore directs the Superintendent or his designee to develop a written plan with appropriate regulations for the training of certain employees on each campus in the use and care of AED equipment, which shall meet with the requirements of law.
