Independent Study Board Policy

The Governing Board authorizes student leave policy for family emergencies or travel a minimum of five consecutive days and not to exceed the length of the school trimester.

An independent study contract/ assignment plan will be implemented so the student can keep current with his/ her academic studies and meet grade level curriculum standards.

The Principal or designee may approve the written independent study agreement based on the student's academic standing. The written agreement shall specify the length of time of each independent study assignment and the tasks to be completed. No independent study agreement can be valid for longer than one trimester in an academic year.

Supervising teachers will establish an appropriate schedule to assist independent study students to keep current with academics.

The Superintendent or designee shall annually report to the Board the number of students participating in independent study, the average daily attendance generated for apportionment purposes.
