Elementary/Middle School Graduation Requirements

In order to recognize successful completion of elementary and middle school education, the Governing Board shall confer diplomas of graduation from elementary and middle schools and from special day of elementary and middle grades.

Diplomas shall be awarded only to students who have completed the course of study prescribed by law and the district. (Education Code 51402)

In addition, students shall meet district requirements for promotion based on grades, assessments or other indicators as specified in Board policy and administrative regulation.

The Superintendent, with input from the Lakeside Intermediate School staff shall develop administrative regulations to establish the specific standards and behavioral expectations for promotion exercises which recognize students who have completed the district's required course of study. While recognizing the importance of these ceremonies, the Board also desires to maintain high standards of student conduct and behavior. The principal may deny the privilege of participating in the ceremonies in accordance with school rules which provide for due process.
