Special Education Students Independent Educational Evaluation

arrow Previous bar Next arrow

The Governing Board recognizes that students with identifiable special needs must have appropriate educational opportunities afforded them in accordance with state and federal law.

Services for students who qualify for Special Education are provided on the basis of diagnosed need. Diagnosis is conducted by trained personnel who use appropriate tests to identify specific information about the student's abilities in areas of concern. Multiple measures are used, including direct observation, to study the effect of interventions or modifications to the regular instructional program. Staff also may consider the student's personal history, development and adaptive behavior.

The Board realizes that a parent/guardian who disagrees with an educational evaluation conducted by district personnel has the conditional right to obtain an Independent Educational Evaluation at public expense.

The Superintendent or designee shall establish a means whereby parents/guardians of students with special needs who disagree with a completed educational evaluation can request an Independent Educational Evaluation at public expense.
