Charter Schools/Charter District

arrow Previous bar Next arrow

The Governing Board believes that a charter school district provides a unique opportunity to implement school-level reform and to support innovations which improve student learning. These schools shall operate under the provisions of the district charter, federal laws, district policies, and general oversight of the Board.

With the establishment of the charter district, it is the intent of the district to use this umbrella provision to cover all educational alternatives. There will not be a charter granted for a school that is independent of the district charter.

The Board shall ensure that any charter granted by the Board contains adequate processes and measures for holding the schools accountable for fulfilling the terms of its charter. These shall include, but not be limited to, fiscal accountability systems as well as multiple measures for evaluating the educational program. To assist the Board in its general oversight responsibility, charters shall provide for regular reports to the Board related to the charter provision.
