Intradistrict Transfer

Acceptable reasons for intradistrict transfer are:

1. Improvement of racial balance in the schools.

2. Improvement of conditions related to the health of the student. (These transfers require submission of a doctor's recommendation.)

3. Change of legal address pending. (Immediate plans for building a home or purchasing a home must be evident.)

4. Transfer of residence. (If a student is not living with his/her parent/guardian, a transfer may be approved upon receipt of a notarized affidavit signed by the parent/guardian and the person with whom the student is residing. The affidavit is to be attached to the application.)

5. For an elementary student to participate in a program not offered in the home school.

6. Family emergency -- situation which is not compatible to the welfare of the student.

The parent/guardian may request an intradistrict transfer giving the reason for the transfer request.

If the reason for the request does not meet the Board approved criteria, the request should be denied. In the rare instance where a reason does not meet the approved criteria but the principal feels that an exception should be granted, the approval may be made by the Superintendent or designee.

Intradistrict/Interdistrict Attendance Permits for Students

Intradistrict/interdistrict attendance permits to or from the Chawanakee Unified School District may be granted under the following conditions:

1. To continue in an out-of-district school to complete grade 8.

2. To continue in an out-of-district school to complete the school year at any level.

3. To facilitate child care arrangements for primary-age children when attending school of residence would present a serious family hardship.

4. For medical reasons when attending school of residence would seriously jeopardize the student's health. The medical reasons shall be defined to the satisfaction of both districts.

5. For another reason so compelling that all parties, parents/guardians, students and both school boards agree.

6. Nonresident students will not be accepted by this district over the objections of the district of residence.

7. No added transportation costs to our district.

8. The district of attendance will receive the ADA and revenue derived from it.

9. Requests should be made before the beginning of the new school year. New students to the area should apply immediately before attending the other school which might be involved. We are not competing for students from out of the district.

10. Due to the increasing enrollment within the Chawanakee Unified School District, each request will be considered separately.

11. Effective January 1, 1987, a student is considered a resident of the school district in which his/her parents/guardians are employed.

12. The Board reserves the right to revoke any interdistrict attendance agreement at any time.

Assignment of Students to Schools

The Chawanakee Unified School District will not permit primary students (K-5) from Balch Camp Elementary School or Pole Corral Elementary school to attend a school other than the above mentioned schools for the purpose of regular school attendance.

The district may permit the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Balch Camp and Pole Corral Schools to attend a school other than their own under the following provisions and conditions:

1. If there is room on the Sierra High School bus, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Balch Camp may attend Sierra Elementary. If there is limited space on the bus, the 8th then 7th, then 6th grade students will be given preference, in that order. In case the high school bus becomes overloaded and cannot transport our students, they will have to attend Balch Camp School for their education. If for any reason whatsoever, the high school ceases bus transportation for the high school students, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will then have to attend Balch Camp School for their education. If a student has been accepted at Sierra and the parents/guardians subsequently decide to have their son/daughter return to Balch Camp School, they will not be permitted to return to Sierra for the rest of the school year, unless otherwise authorized by the Board.

2. If there is room on the Sierra High School bus, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students from Pole Corral School may attend Pine Ridge School, upon approval of an interdistrict attendance agreement by both school districts. If there is limited space on the high school bus, the 8th, then 7th, then 6th grade students will be given preference, in that order. In case the high school bus becomes overloaded and cannot transport our students, they will have to attend Pole Corral School for their education. If for any reason whatsoever, the high school ceases bus transportation for the high school students, the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will then have to attend Pole Corral School for their education. If a student has been accepted at Pine Ridge School and the parents/guardians subsequently decide to have their son/daughter return to Pole Corral School, they will not be permitted to return to Pine Ridge School for the rest of the school year, unless otherwise authorized by the Board.

3. Any other transportation requests by parents/guardians will be considered by the Board.
